The YMCA offers a safe, caring environment where toddlers begin their journey of lifelong learning. Our toddler programs emphasize play-based learning that supports social, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth while helping children develop confidence, curiosity, and independence.

As toddlers grow and change rapidly, our curriculum is designed to meet children where they are—encouraging exploration, communication, and connection through hands-on experiences and nurturing guidance from trained teachers.

One-Year-Olds

This stage marks an exciting transition as toddlers begin mastering new movements and exploring their world with curiosity and enthusiasm. Our one-year-old program focuses on safe exploration using age-appropriate toys, sensory activities, and guided play that supports motor development, problem-solving, and early social skills. Teachers help toddlers build a strong sense of self while encouraging cooperation, communication, and discovery.

Two-Year-Olds

Two-year-olds are energetic, inquisitive, and eager to learn. At this stage, children are introduced to daily circle time, where they gather to sing songs, listen to stories, and engage in group activities. Toddlers begin learning basic concepts such as weather, letters, and numbers, while also being introduced to Spanish and simple sign language to enhance communication and language development.

Our toddler curriculum continues to support key developmental areas, including:

  • Self-awareness and relationships with others
  • Language and early literacy skills
  • Numeracy and problem-solving
  • Creative expression and appreciation of the arts
  • Physical development, health, and safe behaviors
  • Curiosity, confidence, and persistence in learning

Through structured routines and playful learning experiences, toddlers gain the skills they need to grow socially, emotionally, and academically—while having fun every step of the way.
