The Y is the starting point for many youths to learn about becoming active and developing healthy habits they will continue throughout their lives. In a Y sports program, your child will meet friends, learn new skills, improve their fitness and most importantly have fun!

Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes with learning a new sport, building the positive relationships that lead to solid sportsmanship and teamwork, or refining and improving skills, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole athlete, inside and out.

Our YMCA Youth Basketball League is designed to help kids build skills and have fun on the court. All teams are co-ed and led by trained volunteer coaches who focus on developing players’ confidence and love for the game.

Be Goal Oriented!

Youth basketball is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. YMCA youth basketball promises no try outs, no getting cut, and a good amount of playing time while making friends and learning new techniques.

From dribbling, to lay-ups, to free throws, the YMCA’s recreational youth basketball program teaches the fundamentals of basketball and provides kids ages 3 to 13 with a positive basketball experience. Through regular practices and games, teammates gain a strong knowledge of basketball, from shooting, to passing, to blocking and more. Plus they have fun and learn teamwork, which leads to a lifelong love of basketball.

Teams practice once per week and play eight games per season. All teams are led by volunteer coaches. Parental involvement, whether as a team volunteer, cheerleader or coach, is a key to success. Practices take place at the YMCA or local partner locations such as area schools or churches.

Each player will receive a team jersey and participation award. Every child gets equal playing time.

The Y’s main goal is to encourage and promote healthy kids, families and communities by placing a priority on family involvement, healthy competition, equal playing time, fun, and sportsmanship.

Each player will receive jersey/shorts, participation award, and tournament award for 1st place.  The season will end with a single-elimination tournament. Playing time varies according to each coach. NMAA High school rules apply.
