Roberto Aguirre brings extensive experience in program development, strong operations and producing positive impact in communities the YMCA serves
Aguirre will lead the YMCA of Central New Mexico in its efforts to carry out the important Mission of the Y beginning November 11, 2019
Albuquerque, NM – The YMCA of Central New Mexico announced today that Roberto Aguirre will serve as the new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective November 11, 2019. He will succeed Cézanne C. “Zizi” Fritz, who has served as President and CEO for five years and will leave at the end of September 2019, as previously announced.
Aguirre currently serves as Director of Operations at The Highlands School, Inc., in Irving, TX, a position he has held since 2018. He has more than 32 years of experience in the YMCA. His impressive track record of operations, strategic planning, fiscal management and business development made him an ideal choice to lead the YMCA of Central New Mexico.
“We are excited to welcome Roberto Aguirre to the YMCA of Central New Mexico,” said Doug Bolling, Chair of the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Central New Mexico. “The YMCA was brought to Albuquerque over 105 years ago to help the community guide our troubled youth during the railroad era. Today, we face similar issues, guiding and teaching our youth on character, self-reliance and personally helping their community. Roberto has the expertise and skills to hone our YMCA programs and services to serve and improve our community like no other non-profit or business in New Mexico. We thank our previous CEO, Cézanne “Zizi” Fritz for providing a stable foundation to which Roberto can build on. The future is certainly bright for our New Mexico youth, our New Mexico communities and for the YMCA of Central New Mexico.”
“It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to once again serve for the YMCA of Central New Mexico. I look forward to a great working relationship with the Board of Directors, staff members and all of the volunteers that help carry out the important Mission of the YMCA of Central New Mexico,” said Aguirre. “The YMCA of Central New Mexico has consistently found innovative ways to address critical social needs in New Mexico and I look forward to continuing that vital work.”
In his current role at The Highlands School, Inc., Aguirre has been responsible for development and management of a $5M yearly budget as well as accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking relations and debt management. In his previous position as President and CEO with the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA, he successfully implemented innovative membership and program strategies, and combined with strategic marketing efforts, increased membership by 46% in a two-year period. Association revenue and cash revenue were also increased.
Aguirre received a Master of Science in Organizational Management and Leadership at Springfield College in Springfield, MA and received a Bachelor of Science at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. He also holds an Organizational Leader Certification with the YMCA and is a Coach/Mentor with the YMCA Minority Executive Development Institute.
