Personal Fitness
The YMCA of Central New Mexico is committed to providing you the best in innovative programming, along with established fitness industry favorites.
Before You Begin: Fitness Assessment
A fitness assessment is a valuable tool when your trainer develops a training regimen. We want to get to know you and your current level of fitness, so that we can make the best recommendations possible for your fitness program.
How to Prepare
Please come dressed in comfortable, active clothing with proper footwear. Avoid caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol in the 48-hour period before your consultation, as well as strenuous exercise and a large meal on the day of your appointment. In addition to this, make sure you are sufficiently hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
What to Expect
Your assessment will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. You will meet 1-on-1 with a trainer and go through a brief personal health history. This helps us to get to know you better and will alert us to any restrictions and/or concerns you may have.
Testing includes:
- Girth measurements
- Body composition using the Tanita Body Composition Analyzer
- Flexibility measurement
- The YMCA 3-Minute step test for cardiovascular fitness
- A variety of strength testing
- Postural assessment
If you feel uncomfortable with any of these tests or are unable to do what is asked, just let your trainer know. Keep in mind; the more we know about you, the more we can help you reach your goals.
Your Comfort
If you desire a male or female trainer to perform your assessments, please request your preference when scheduling. Contact our Fitness Director Carrie Ann Drinville for currently available trainers and to help you in choosing the trainer for you to hire.
