The YMCA of New Mexico strives to support social responsibility through intentional, strategic alignment with partners working towards youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Thanks to our collaborative partnerships we can maximize our strength and avoid duplicating services.
Foster Care
- CASA, Inc. (Bernalillo Court Appointed Special Advocates): Through a grant made possible by Wells Fargo and CASA, the YMCA facilitates a Play! Scholarship for CASA Volunteers and Foster parents who need financial assistance for foster kids who wish to participate in youth sports, day camps or memberships.
Community Health
- ACHIEVE: (Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and Environmental Change): A CDC grant, ACHIEVE brings communities together to prevent chronic diseases and promote healthy lifestyles.
- Youth Food Project (YFAP): Through a grant made available from the USDA, we partnered with three community urban farms to teach healthy eating to our young people.
- APS Health and Wellness Department: The Y works closely with goals to create healthier lifestyles for APS Students.
- Military Outreach Initiative: Military families can spend quality time together and enjoy fun activities in a warm, supportive environment. It’s also a place to meet other military families who can relate to your unique situation.
- YMCA Healthy Kids Day: Our annual event focused on fun activities and healthy living.
- YMCA Healthy Family Home: A YMCA initiative that provides great tips for a healthy family home.
Employment & Vocational Training
- YMCA Higher Education Nights: Through a grant made available by the YMCA of the USA, YMCA middle school Students are given the tools to get ready to enter college. Family-friendly college prep nights, field trips to campuses, and mentor matching are all a part of this exciting college ready outreach.
- Intel Design Squad: Summer camps introduce the exciting world of engineering through a project-based curriculum that engages young people in an educational and fun manner.
- Junior Achievement Financial Literacy Curriculum: Our youth programming weaves financial literacy into our curriculum.
- Literacy Programming: Through D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) as well as the Dion’s Club Read, young people and their families are encouraged to make reading a priority.
- Counselor in Training “Legacy” Program: Through a grant made available through the Hubbard Foundation, the YMCA has developed a job training program that teaches young people how to make a difference in their communities.
- Computer lab: Through a grant made available through Intel, the Horn Family YMCA Teen Center has a computer lab that assists students with homework and research development.
- Elev8: At Grant Middle School, Elev8 program students learn about the real world through the the Microsociety program. Students learn about the value of a work ethic, money, and our roles in the bigger picture.
- Internships and practicums: The YMCA works closely with higher education to introduce positive youth development, healthy living and social responsibility to students seeking a learning and understanding of Y mission work.
- Better Together Faith Communities Network: An initiative to bring faith communities together for the spiritual development of all people. This network is a collaboration of eight churches and the YMCA striving in an effort to bring powerful youth volunteer training to people wishing to work with young people:
Environment Education
- Youth Food Action Project (YFAP) Through a grant made available through the USDA, this collaboration was made possible by ACHIEVE. This project enhances community food security and combats the obesity epidemic in a manner that engages youth, educates the community about the nature of the food system and mobilizes resident to take action to improve food access and food quality.
Family Services and Skill Development
The YMCA of Central New Mexico Partners with other family based organizations to serve families in the most comprehensive manner possible.
